New Westworld images tease that Dolores and Maeve team-up in Season 2

Dolores and Maeve walked separate paths in Westworld Season 1, but could we see them join forces in Season 2?

Maeve and Dolores were the queens of Westworld Season 1. They both made autonomous decisions in the season finale and evolved beyond their core programming. Their stories featured many parallels and connections to one another, yet they barely interacted. They certainly weren’t aware of the other’s incredible journeys. This was mostly due to the contrast in timelines. Since Maeve’s story mostly took place in the present and Dolores’s story primarily took place in the past.

Thankfully, it appears our 2 favorite hosts will join forces in the show’s second season. How do we know this? Well, Thandie Newton and Evan Rachel Wood are featured together on the cover of Entertainment Weekly’s Westworld Season 2 issue. The 2 also share a more intimate photo within the exclusive issue. So, what does their new relationship mean for Season 2? Let’s take a look at some of the possibilities.

What Would A Maeve And Dolores Team-Up Look Like In Westworld Season 2?

• A Strong Partnership

Heading into Season 2, it’s easy to be concerned about about a team-up between Maeve and Dolores. At it’s heart, the Maeve/Dolores relationship should be one of empowerment rather than contention. It is a common trope to have “strong female characters” at each other’s throats. While the strong wills of Maeve and Dolores could easily clash, it would be more satisfying to see them unite as queens of the hosts’ revolution.

For both characters, Westworld Season 1 was largely about their individual empowerment and transcendence. It seems only fitting that this should continue through the characters complementing each other’s strengths. As far as a partnership, the two could easily find their own roles while working toward a common goal.

• Equal Roles While Working Towards A Common Goal

Dolores could be leading her host revolution within Westworld, while Maeve could head up operations in Delos’ headquarters. Maeve’s resourcefulness and cunning would easily allow her to take control of the situation within the facilities. Meanwhile, Dolores could carry out her plan within the park – and possibly other parks. Together as a united front, they would be a formidable (maybe unstoppable) force.

• What Would Bernard’s Role Be In Maeve And Dolores’ Alliance?

Although we don’t know where he stands as of now, Bernard could be a key part of Maeve and Dolores’ alliance. He already shares a history with both of them, and given his expertise, he could be extremely valuable. We’ve seen him with the hosts and humans in the Westworld Season 2 trailers, but we don’t know where his loyalty lies. If he teams with Dolores and Maeve, he could easily infiltrate the humans and further the host agenda.

Whether or not Bernard is involved, there should be ample time dedicated to Maeve and Dolores’ relationship. Both characters made crucial decisions in the Season 1 finale and are vital to the hosts continued evolution. They both want to build a better world for themselves and their fellow hosts. They’re fierce, tenacious, but also have vulnerabilities, the blend of which has truly endeared them to audiences everywhere. We’re excited to see that Dolores and Maeve will share more screen-time in Westworld Season 2.
