The premiere episode of AMC’s The Terror, “Go for Broke,” airs tonight (Monday, March 26) at 8:00 p.m. CST. We’ve been looking forward to this show, which stars a couple of prominent Game of Thrones alumni, for a while. Here’s the summary, per IMDb :

"Set in 1847. A crew of a Royal Naval expedition is sent to find the Arctic’s treacherous Northwest Passage but instead discovers a monstrous predator, a cunning and vicious Gothic horror that stalks the ships in a desperate game of survival, the consequences of which could endanger the region and its native people forever."

There’s a description for the premiere, too: “An accident at sea cripples a Royal Navy expedition, forcing its captains to make a dire choice.” Check out the official trailer if you haven’t seen it yet:

Pay attention, and you’ll see two Game of Thrones  (and Rome) veterans in the cast: Ciaran Hinds (Mance Rayder) and Tobias Menzies (Edmure Tully) play captains Sir John Franklin and John Fitzjames respectively. They star alongside other notable actors like Jared Harris (The Expanse) and Christos Lawton (Downton Abbey). Director Ridley Scott, the guy behind movies like Blade Runner and Alien, is aproducers.

The Terror is based on the bestselling historical fiction novel of the same title by author Dan Simmons. It offers a suspenseful, horrific take on the real-life disaster of the lost Franklin Expedition, which set out in 1845. Captain Sir John  Franklin and his two ships, The Erebus and The Terror, vanished while searching the perilous Arctic ocean for the fabled Northwest Passage.

Missions designed to find out what happened to the Franklin Expedition have been undertaken from Victorian times right up until today. The artifacts recovered suggest that some of the shipwrecked crew survived for a long period of time, some resorting to cannibalism before they succumbed to scurvy, malnutrition, lead poisoning and the relentless cold. And now, according to Simmons, there’s a monster in the mix.

Apparently, all 10 episodes of The Terror series will be available for binge-watchers, but only if you are an AMC Premiere member on Comcast. The rest of us are gonna have to watch it the old-fashioned way, week by week.

If you wish, you can check out AMC’s official website for The Terror and explore some behind-the-scenes videos and extras. And if you want a sneak peak at the first episode “Go for Broke,” AMC is happy to comply:

Ready? Remember, it starts tonight! We’ll be following the series episode by episode here at WiC, so we hope you’ll join in the discussion!
