“Hey, they were in Game of Thrones”—Where else have you seen these 55 GoT cast members? (Part 2)
23) EUGENE SIMON
The wellborn Lancel Lannister, the eldest son of Kevan Lannister, grew from a boy to a young man before our eyes on Game of Thrones. Brought to life by British actor Eugene Simon, Lancel’s character transformed several times, from Robert Baratheon’s inconsequential squire to a wounded knight and eventually a fanatic in thrall to the High Sparrow.
When Simon first appeared on Game of Thrones at the age of 19, he was appearing in two shows at once. He’d perform scenes for Nickelodeon’s show House of Anubis in Liverpool (below), then jet to Belfast for his scenes in Thrones. As Simon told the Chicago Tribune, the productions arranged their schedules so he could appear in both shows, but having to juggle two characters at once was his responsibility:
"You have to learn to kind of switch off one part of your brain and turn on the other. So that was a good learning experience, really. They definitely couldn’t be more different than they are."
Simon first hit the airwaves in 2003 in My Dad’s the Prime Minister, and continued with appearances on shows like Noah and Saskia (2004), My Family and Other Animals (2005, below), Ben Hur (2010) and Genius (2017).
His film credits include Casanova (2005), Alpha Male (2006), Before I Sleep (2013) and The Lodgers (2017).
Despite his character having been killed off, Simon still follows Game of Thrones, and told Harper’s Bazaar who he thinks will win the Iron Throne:
"Well I have a feeling that it will be Jon Snow. I think in all likelihood Jon Snow will end up on the Throne in the end. I don’t know why, I just have a feeling. There is also two other possibilities. The first is that the Iron Throne will be destroyed—I’m not giving anything away, by the way. I know nothing, this is just my theory … And I don’t think Daenerys will be on the throne. She’s a fantastic conqueror, but I’m not sure how good a leader she is. We’ll have to wait and see."
You don’t have to wait long to see Simon again; he’ll appear in comedy-thriller Kill Ben Lyk this year.
