“Hey, they were in Game of Thrones”—Where else have you seen these 55 GoT cast members? (Part 2)
25) IAN McSHANE
We knew Brother Ray only briefly, but his effect on the Hound may be everlasting. Of course, we know English actor Ian McShane very well—he’s done stuff all over the place for a long, long time, since 1962.
McShane is also famous for not giving a s**t. He gained some negative attention for spilling the beans about his Game of Thrones character ahead of his debut in season 6, and for revealing that the Hound was going to return. “You say the slightest thing and the internet goes ape,” McShane told The Telegraph on May 1, 2016. “I was accused of giving the plot away, but I just think get a f—ing life. It’s only tits and dragons.”
McShane’s immense list of movie acting credits include Young and Willing (1962), Battle of Britain (1969), Journey into Fear (1975), Torchlight (1985), Sexy Beast (2000), Kung Fu Panda (2008), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011, above) and John Wick: Chapter Two (2016).
His TV appearances are legion: Wuthering Heights (1967, below), Space: 1999 (1975), Police Woman (1975), Roots (1977), Magnum P.I., (1981-82), War and Remembrance (1988-89), Dallas (1989), Miami Vice (1987-89), The West Wing (2002), Deadwood (2004-2006), Spongebob Squarepants (2008), American Horror Story (2012), Ray Donovan (2015) and American Gods (2017-18).
Continuing with the infamous Telegraph interview, McShane talked about why he accepted the part on Thrones:
"They asked me if I wanted to do Game of Thrones and I said, ‘Sure, I’ll be able to see my old pals Charlie Dance and Stephen Dillane’ and they said, ‘No, we’ve killed them off.’ I wasn’t sure whether I could commit, but then they said it would only be for one episode, so I said, ‘So that means I must die at the end of it. Great, I’m in.’"
Did you see McShane drop another story spoiler at the end of his quote there? He may not keep secrets well, but McShane sure stays busy: he’ll be appearing in Bolden, Hellboy and John Wick: Chapter III in 2019.
