39) GETHIN ANTHONY

As a member of the ill-fated Baratheon clan, the ambitious Renly made a power grab for the Iron Throne after the death of his brother Robert. English Shakespearean actor Gethin Anthony gave Renly a nice dose of nobility in his limited screen time, but the nefarious Melisandre, working for his brother Stannis, made sure the character didn’t stick around for long.

Since Gethin exited Thrones early (halfway through season 2), he still thinks of Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams as little girls, as he tells Vanity Fair:

"(At one point) I did kind of a mini-binge to catch up. When you watch it intensely it really takes you to a dark place. I don’t know if this is just me, because I worked with some of those actors when they were younger, especially Sophie and Maisie. I very much remember them as children, and they are young women now—but seeing them go through tough scenes is really quite difficult, actually."

Gethin’s television credits include Holby City (2006), Doctors (2007), 10 Days to War (2008) and Aquarius (2015-2016, above). He’s also done films, such as Copenhagen (2014, below), We are Monster (2014), Kodachrome (2017) and Hi-Lo Jo (2017).

Gethin is busy these days, appearing in the features Around the Sun and Dead in a Week: Or your Money Back (2018).
