Doctor Who: Genesis of the Daleks coming to U.S. theaters in June

For one night only, the popular Fourth Doctor story Genesis of the Daleks will be coming to U.S. theaters in June, courtesy of Fathom Events!
Last Friday, EW revealed something very special would happen this summer. On June 11th, Doctor Who: Genesis of the Daleks will be coming to U.S. theaters, courtesy of Fathom Events. The story will be shown in a 90-minute director’s cut not previously seen in North America. There will also be an interview with Tom Baker included with the screening.
To this day, Genesis of the Daleks is both one of the most popular and one of the most influential Doctor Who stories ever made. Not just the first story to feature Davros, the story was one of the very best by Dalek creator Terry Nation. It was also filled with incredibly strong performances. Especially Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Michael Wisher as Davros, and Peter Miles as Nyder.

It also had a huge influence on the New Series. While Russell T Davies created the Time War, he has suggested several times that it really began in Genesis. This was due to the Time Lords trying to wipe out the Daleks at their very creation.
And in 2015 for Series Nine, Steven Moffat based The Magician’s Apprentice/The Witch’s Familiar on a key idea from Genesis of the Daleks. The original story’s clear impact has lasted for decades.
A big story for the big screen
For many fans, seeing such a major story on the big screen is incredibly exciting. In the announcement, Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt said:
"We are excited to work with our long-standing partners at BBC Studios to bring our 17th joint cinema event, Doctor Who: Genesis of the Daleks, to movie theaters across the U.S. and for fans to see Tom Baker on the big screen."
That last point is a key one. It’s not often that fans get the chance to watch one of the most popular Doctors on the big screen. We can expect a lot of Whovians wearing scarves to all the screenings for this one.
Genesis of the Daleks will be coming out on Blu-Ray as part of a Season Twelve box set on June 19th.
