Season 8 filming: Archers spotted on top of the King’s Landing set in Belfast
By Dan Selcke
We have good news and bad news. The good news is that filming looks to be underway at a couple of prominent Game of Thrones filming locations, such as the enormous King’s Landing set the crew spent months building:
"I’m in Belfast and I just took this pic, lights are one. They’re probably filming!! from freefolk"
The bad news is that, now that the cameras are rolling, HBO is tightening security. The Redditor who took this photo, RedB04, claimed that he was asked HBO to delete his pics and isn’t sure he’ll be able to take more. But before that happened, he snapped a good one:
"Archers on the left tower!!!!!! from freefolk"
Zoom in on this pic and you can see a small group of extras — four, by my count — standing on one of the towers. Per RedB04, they were wearing red “skirts,” which indicates they’re in the Lannister army…which makes sense, because this is King’s Landing and Cersei still rules here.
Eric Deering had yet more photos of the soldiers on the towers, although he was less sure of their identity:
We’re not entirely sure what sort of scene the crew is filming on the King’s Landing set, although we have seen Unsullied soldiers and Dothraki riders marching on the place. Basically, I figure one of two things is going to happen here: 1) Jon and Dany defeat the White Walkers up north and march to King’s Landing to deal with Cersei; or 2) Jon and Dany lose to the White Walkers up north and march to King’s Landing for refuge and to defend the biggest surviving clump of human beings left in Westeros.
We’ll surely see more as filming continues. What do you make of it?
Meanwhile, in Spain, HBO has closed the Roman ruins of Italica completely to visitors. Up until yesterday, only the scenic amphitheater was closed. Fans will recognize the amphitheater as the place where they filmed the meeting at the Dragonpit in the season 7 finale.
The whole of Italica be completely closed until May 18, at which point it will go back to partial closures. So whatever they’re filming here, they’ll shoot the most important stuff over the next two weeks.
