From Belfast to Seville to Iceland and beyond, HBO has traveled all over Europe to shoot scenes for Game of Thrones season 8. Shooting on the historic final episodes is set to come to an end sometime in June, but until then, there’s still time for surprises. For example, the ever-vigilant Irish Thrones has noticed telltale pink ‘GOT’ signs on the road to the Northern Irish town of Newcastle, which is near Tollymore Forest Park, one of the earliest Game of Thrones filming locations:
Zoom in on the sign in the bushes and you can even see “Tollymore Forest Park” on it. Irish Thrones also notes that Game of Thrones scouts have scoped out the area for further use.
Tollymore Forest was famously used for a variety of season 1 locations, including the area where Ned Stark and sons found the direwolf pups, a forest where Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow talked while on their way to the Wall, and the area where the ill-fated Night’s Watchmen encountered White Walkers in the very first sequence of the show.
Might Game of Thrones be returning to this location on purpose to evoke early scenes from the show? You know, ending where it all began and so on and so forth? Or maybe it just needs a forest. We’ll keep our ears open for more.
