David Tennant and Catherine Tate to star in new series Americons!
By James Aggas
A new comedy drama has recently been announced called Americons, and will star Doctor Who fan favourites, David Tennant and Catherine Tate!
Deadline has recently announced a brand new series for David Tennant and Catherine Tate. While there are only a few details about Americons so far, there are definitely a few key details that will surely interest Doctor Who fans.
Firstly, it’s written by Catherine Tate herself. Considering that the premise focuses on two people who move to the United States, it sounds like it could be an interesting and observant comedy drama.
More from Doctor Who
- Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who Christmas special is a “complete reinvention”
- Ncuti Gatwa is “so nervous” to take on Doctor Who role
- The Doctor and Donna are better than ever in “Wild Blue Yonder”
- Take the Black: House of the Dragon season 2 trailer hints, the Fallout show, and more
- Jodie Whittaker didn’t pick up on any of the hate for her version of the Doctor
Bringing back Tennant and Tate on screen together is also an instant plus. It’s not just that the pair had great chemistry when they played Ten and Donna in Series Four.
It’s also because the pair have had a good working relationship since then. Along with working together on stage in 2011 for Much Ado About Nothing, they’ve also worked together recently on DuckTales.
It’s quite possible that Tate wrote the series with her and Tennant in mind, specifically. After all, working off a good working relationship like that should be a strong foundation for the series.
Bad Wolf
Americons is also being produced by Bad Wolf. If you’re reminded of the arc in Series One, it’s not a coincidence. Because Bad Wolf was founded by Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner, two key people who helped to bring Doctor Who back in 2005.
While Russell T Davies might not be involved, it sounds like quite the combination of actors and producers from his era. So it will be exciting to see where this series goes.
Not to mention, to get more details. It sounds promising from the talent involved, but it’ll be great to hear more of what it’s about, or even get a trailer. When more details are revealed, you can be sure it’ll be covered here.
