In Sunday’s episode, Dolores made a decision that had us all baffled, shocked, and well, intrigued by how far gone she has become. “To grow, we all need to suffer.” This was the byline that echoed through the latest episode and came to fruition when Dolores decided something needed to be done about Teddy’s all-too-innocent personality.

Things are getting complicated in Dolores’ world and she needs everyone to be on their A-game, including Teddy. Thus, she ultimately decides that some “personality adjustments” need to be made to him in order to achieve her goal. Goodbye sweet, innocent Teddy–you will sort of be missed.

After a night of passion, Dolores lures Teddy into a barn where she confesses that he needs to be different if he is to join her in the war ahead. Thanks to her captive lab tech, some adjustments are made to Teddy’s personality–which we assume will be heartless, brutal, and frightening.

Evan Rachel Wood spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about Dolores’ difficult decision and how heartbroken she was over it.

"“It was horrible. I’m not even kidding. I think because we’ve been doing the show for four years now — if you go back to the pilot, which was shot in 2014 — we’re all so attached to these characters. The experience is so immersive, so there’s a huge part of you that feels like you’re real. There’s a space you all occupy with each other between action and cut that is real. When something bad happens to one of the characters, it genuinely upsets us, because we’re so in it.”"

Wood confessed it was an extremely harsh scene to film and had her in tears since she was essentially saying bye to the character of Teddy as we’ve known him. We’re not sure if the changes will be permanent, but Wood talked about it being temporary just for the purposes of fighting in the battle ahead. Perhaps, the old Teddy may still return (but we are definitely excited for the new version!).
