Twitch to broadcast hundreds of Classic Doctor Who episodes
By James Aggas
It’s just been announced that over 500 episodes of the Classic Series will be broadcast on Twitch, starting as soon as next week!
Whovians who’ve been wanting to watch the Classic Series for free, you’re going to love this news. It was recently announced that Twitch, the live streaming platform, will be broadcasting over 500 Doctor Who episodes from May 29th until July 23rd.
The episodes will all be from the original twenty-six seasons of the Classic Series. Episodes will be screened three times a day around the world in blocks. They’ll also be completely free to watch. I’m sure many Whovians will be pleased about that fact in particular.
More from Doctor Who
- Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who Christmas special is a “complete reinvention”
- Ncuti Gatwa is “so nervous” to take on Doctor Who role
- The Doctor and Donna are better than ever in “Wild Blue Yonder”
- Take the Black: House of the Dragon season 2 trailer hints, the Fallout show, and more
- Jodie Whittaker didn’t pick up on any of the hate for her version of the Doctor
To find out which episodes are being broadcast when, you can look up the broadcast times for either the UK or US here.
But what else will the marathon include, besides the episodes? Well, to begin with, a series of specials by The Yogscast will introduce each era of the show.
Behind the scenes stories, monsters and the best and worst of each era will be covered in these specials. They’ll also feature Doctor Who screenwriters, experts, and apparently, even a former companion. (No news on who that companion is, but feel free to speculate!)
Prizes
Perhaps most intriguing to fans in the US, the UK and Canada is the fact that there will also be giveaways each week, including a grand prize for a trip to London Comic-Con!
You can find out more details on how to enter, as well as the full terms and conditions, at the following link: https://watch.twitch.tv/DoctorWhoSweepstakes.
Overall, this is quite an exciting opportunity for Doctor Who fans. Especially those who have yet to watch the Classic Series. After all, over 500 episodes is a huge amount of the original series. The fact that so many new to Classic Who will get to watch them for the first time for free is wonderful. So here’s hoping that this marathon will bring even more new fans to the Classic Series.
