Is Game of Thrones filming multiple endings? Hannah Murray (Gilly) weighs in
By Corey Smith
Con of Thrones 2018, the biggest Game of Thrones convention of its kind, took place in Dallas over this past weekend. In addition to being a great place to converse with other fans, it was a breeding ground for and rumors about season 8, with actual members of the cast and crew on site to confirm or deny.
For example, since shooting on season 8 began, rumors have swirled that HBO may film multiple endings in a bid to prevent spoilers. Everyone from Maisie Williams (Arya) to Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) have weighed in, with inconclusive results. Speaking to The Daily Dot at Con of Thrones, Hannah Murray (Gilly) gave her thoughts on the matter:
"So I only just heard that for the first time, just today. I don’t—I was not under the impression that there were multiple endings, but I could be wrong and I could be being fooled and I could have [a] completely incorrect idea of how this season ends."
On the one hand, assuming HBO actually did shoot multiple endings, whatever that means, it’s possible Murray wasn’t around for them. On the other hand, maybe the few cast members going on about multiple endings are just pulling our leg. It wouldn’t be the first time.
Either way, Murray has finished filming her scenes for season 8. “The final day was definitely very emotional because you’re having to say goodbye to a lot of people,” she said. “I feel so lucky to have been a part of the show for so long.”
Now at Winterfell for the first time, Gilly should have an interesting final season that will, at minimum, involve her interacting with characters she has yet to share scenes with. Multiple endings or not, we hope Gilly bows out with the dignity she deserves. She’s been through enough, people.
