A large dragon rig shows up near the King’s Landing set in Belfast

Game of Thrones season 8 at Titanic Studios in Belfast, where it’s built an enormous section of King’s Landing. Things there have been hopping lately, what with various structures looking like they’ve sustained heavy fire damage. While it was never hard to guess what started to fire, recent shots of a green screen rig on the set get us closer to confirmation:

That rig looks very similar to ones that Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) has ridden in past seasons. In other words, when the CGI department is done with that thing, it’ll be a dragon.

More than one person has spotted the dragon rig. Here it is in a more complete form, hiding behind a wall:

One note: while the dragon rig is at Titanic Studios, it’s not actually on the King’s Landing set, at least for now.

So is this dragon rig bigger than the one used in season 7? Twitter’s own dragon’s daughter grabbed some stills from past seasons of Dany riding the Drogon rig and made some comparisons, helpfully circling where Drogon’s neck is supposed to be. Here a shot from season 5…

It’s hard to tell if Drogon (assuming this is Drogon and not another dragon entirely) has gotten bigger between seasons 7 and 8, but considering that the final season will pick up right where the last one ended, we don’t expect him to grow too much. Still, far be in for us to tell him he can’t get huge.
