Later this month, Kit Harington and Rose Leslie, the actors behind tragic lovers Jon Snow and Ygritte, will get married Lickleyhead Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Leslie’s family owns the castle. It’s a normal wedding, you guys.
British newspaper The Sun has a few more details on the nuptials. Apparently, the pair are getting married by Father Chad Boulton, a Benedictine monk from Ampleforth Abbey. (Lickleyhead Castle, Ampleforth Abbey…the place names sure are fun in the UK.) According to friends, getting married in a castle is a deliberate nod to how Harington and Leslie met. Said a source: “They’re getting married by a monk in a castle. It doesn’t get more Game of Thrones than that.”
The wedding will take place on June 23, and will have 200 guests. I think we can safely assume that’ll include some cast and crew members from Game of Thrones. In fact, The Sun even reports that Harington asked that production on Thrones be halted for the day, although I don’t know if I believe that. After all, Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) has said filming will wrap up in late June anyway.
But regardless of whether shooting on season 8 is finished by the wedding date, it should serve as a fun way to mark what has been for many cast and crew members the end of a very long journey. And you know everyone will feel right at home in a castle.
