Doctor Who: Eighth Doctor – Time War 2: new trailer and story details revealed!

A new volume of Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor: The Time War is out next month, and new details have been revealed about the upcoming release!

In case you don’t already know, I’m a big fan of the Eighth Doctor. Particularly his audios from Big Finish, which are consistently brilliant.

Last year, we got the first volume of his own Time War series. Each episode was a fantastic listen, and helped to make the box set a highly recommended purchase.

Next month, another volume is due to be released. We’ve had several details revealed about it so far, including episode titles and even a cover.

This weekend, we’ve found out even more, including episode details and even a trailer.

Episode details

First, here are the story details, as listed in Big Finish’s announcement.

Morally driven drama

So there’s a lot to expect from these four episodes. Finding out more about Bliss in the first episode sounds especially promising. As strong as the first box set was, her character wasn’t explored a great deal. So it’ll be great to get a better idea of her character.

Even better is who’s writing the first episode. It’s been a long time since Jonathan Morris last wrote for the Eighth Doctor. Considering how morally driven Deimos/The Resurrection of Mars was, it’s fantastic to know he’s writing for the Eighth Doctor once more.

In fact, it sounds like The Lords of Terror will be even more morally driven than The Resurrection of Mars, as he describes in this month’s issue of Vortex magazine from Big Finish.

"All drama is essentially about putting your characters in situations where they have to make heartbreaking, life-changing choices, where the characters are defined by which way they jump. So what I have tried to do with this is create a situation where you don’t know which way the Doctor will go…"

New writers for the Eighth Doctor

So the opening episode sounds very exciting. And so do the following episodes. In particular, the Twelve sounds like an interesting successor to the Eleven. Radically different in some ways, of course, but that’s what made the Eleven so appealing in the first place.

After all, there are many incarnations they’ve got stuck in their heads. So it’s fantastic that we’ve got another fresh voice to add to all those personalities.

Having such a strong writing team is also fantastic. It’ll be great to hear Guy Adams writing for the Eighth Doctor. (Even if his second story sounds suspiciously like Eight is going to lose his memory. Again.)

And Timothy X Atack has definitely proved to a great new writer for Big Finish. It’ll be exciting to hear how he’ll handle the Eighth Doctor.

There’s clearly a lot to look forward to with The Eighth Doctor: The Time War 2 in general. It’ll be exciting to find out what this brings to the Time War and how this will stand out from the first box set.
