Watch the trailer for Westworld Episode 209, “Vanishing Point”

By the looks of it, we’re in for another intimate, character-driven episode of Westworld come next Sunday, as HBO ramps up to a big finish. The trailer for “Vanishing Point,” the penultimate episode of season 2, focuses heavily on William, aka the Man in Black, aka Ed Harris in a cowboy outfit. Watch and learn.

It looks like we’re going to get a deep dive into William’s backstory, complete with looks at his incredibly dysfunctional home life. That’s his wife Juliet (Sela Ward) smiling at the party around the 1:01 mark. Juliet goes on to commit suicide, allegedly because of something she saw in William.

So it’s gonna be a dark one. But Ed Harris is a terrific performer, and can do a lot with an episode centered on his character. Bring it on.

And we’ll check in with our other players, too. We see glimpses of Dolores, Bernard and Teddy in action. (Although that shot of Teddy being examined in the Mesa looks like it’s from a flashback. Ditto the shot of Clementine examining her reflection.) Most horrifyingly, we have a shot of Maeve (Thandie Newton) with her throat split open, still being operated on by Delos technicians. Who is the white-haired man she’s talking to? Ford (Anthony Hopkins)?

We’ll have to wait until Sunday, June 17 to find out!
