Season 8 filming: The Red Keep changes color again

All the signs are pointing to filming on Game of Thrones season 8 wrapping up any day now, but it’s not over ’til it’s over. And at the moment, there are still things happening at the ginormous King’s Landing set at Titanic Studios, specifically to a wall of the Red Keep the production built.

That’s what the wall has looked like for the bulk of filming. The Red Keep is painted red — who knew?

Then, one day, we woke to to find the wall painted white, setting off some speculation about the who and the why. Does Daenerys or Jon Snow or the Night King or Hot Pie kick Cersei off the throne and paint the Red Keep white to symbolize the beginning of the new era?

No, they don’t, because the wall has changed colors once again, as we can see in the below image from A Red Priestess. It seems like the white color was simply primer — now, the wall has been painted the color of nude stone:

Our questions remain, though: Who is having the Red Keep repainted, and why? HBO is planning to leave this King’s Landing set standing as a tourist attraction after filming is finished. Is this to be the permanent color of the Red Keep from now on? But if it is, why wouldn’t they leave it red? Wouldn’t that be what Game of Thrones tourists wanted to see?

The mystery continues. Let us know what you think.

And let us know what you think of this: last week, GoTlike Locations caught a glimpse of the back of a new set inside the Paint Hall, the vast indoor space at Titanic Studios. We posted the picture at the time, but didn’t speculate as to what it was:

Fansite Watchers on the Wall suggests that we are once again looking at the Red Keep, citing the windows and the stone work. That’s probably it; considering the size of this thing, there’s not much else it could be. Also note the big bite taken out of the set in the upper left-hand corner of the picture. Something has blown a hole in the structure, and we’re betting you can guess what.
