Season 8 filming: Of ships and strange towers

facebooktwitterreddit

Another day, another set of images from near the King’s Landing set at Titanic Studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland. As usual, A Red Priestess has taken some lovely photos, and as is becoming usual, I’m not quite sure what I’m looking at. Let’s examine the new pics together below the SPOILER fold:

Let’s start with the basics. For a few days now, the King’s Landing set has been taking a beating. To be specific, the crew has lit big parts of it on fire, and as this new photo shows, it’s still smoldering:

But that was expected. The confusing new prop of the day is this…thing. What is this?

Is it the creepiest looking siege tower in history? It does look like the siege ladder photographed on the set yesterday:

This siege ladder has assumedly been covered in skins and furs to make it harder to set on fire. The simplest explanation for the tower is that it’s the same thing, just bigger. But it just looks so creepy. To me, it looks like some unholy tower of flesh from the other side of sanity…but ti’s probably not that. What do you guys make of it?

This next picture makes more sense: there are ships in the Paint Hall:

So there you have it: Game of Thrones season 8 will involve boats…and maybe Lovecraftian horrors/siege towers.
