10. The Long Night and the Battle for the Dawn

What it is: The Long Night is…a very long night, a winter that lasted a generation. The Others/White Walkers and their wights showed up, probably for the first time, and drove the First Men and the Children, who were unable to stand before them, southward. Finally, the Others were defeated by a force led by Azor Ahai or the Last Hero (or maybe they’re the same person — it’s unclear) using dragonglass and probably Valyrian steel and maybe a flaming sword called Lightbringer.

The effects of the Long Night were far-reaching, and felt even in distant parts of Essos.

Why it could be awesome: The Long Night is very similar to what we will probably get in season 8 of Game of Thrones. If we like that, we’ll probably like this. After seeing Azor Ahai reborn, why not go back to the original? This would also resolve a lot of mysteries that might still exist even after Game of Thrones is over.

Why it could be terrible: Could it be too much of the same old thing? It’s kind of like Game of Thrones season 8, only we’d have a better idea of how it will end. Surely even a juggernaut like Game of Thrones could run out of steam if it fails to reinvent itself.

How likely we are to get it: 98%
