8. Sheepstealer

Sheepstealer is another dark horse. This dragon took part in one war, the Dance of the Dragons, but is on this last for its cleverness, not its ability in battle.

Sheepstealer was a wild dragon tamed by a baseborn commoner (possibly a Targaryen bastard) named Nettles, one of only four “dragonseeds” to successfully bond with a dragon. Just as Nettles seems more clever than the other dragonseeds, Sheepstealer strikes me as a smart one. He would not be tricked or subdued — Sheepstealer killed more potential dragonseeds than the Cannibal or Grey Ghost, two of the other unclaimed dragons — but was charmed by Nettles regularly bringing him the mutton he loved and was named for.

One of the most interesting things about Sheepstealer is that it might still be alive. Nettles, knowing when to make an exit, decided to flee public life after being named a traitor by Rhaenyra Targaryen for sleeping with Daemon Targaryen, Rhaenyra’s uncle and husband. Sheepstealer and Nettles were last seen over the Bay of Crabs, their destination unclear. No one has heard from them since.

If Sheepstealer is still alive, he could be a complete game changer. For all we know, he’s much bigger and stronger than Drogon by now.
