Westworld season three might not be for a while, but here is the latest update on everything we know about it so far!
Westworld spoilers ahead!
Westworld season two finale left us with so many questions, and we have no idea who will be back, and who won’t. But rest assured, here, at Beyond Westworld, we broke down all the facts that emerged from season two and what we do know for sure going into season three.
And while we went over specific plot points in that article, let’s take a look at some of the other things we, sort of, have an idea about–including a possible premiere date. About a year and a half passed before season two premiered, and we can expect that sort of wait for season three as well, so we can anticipate a premiere date somewhere in 2019 or 2020.
In an EW interview with showrunner Jonathan Nolan he explains why there is such a long wait:
"“It’s an ongoing conversation with our friends at HBO, and for us, with a show of this scope and scale, we’re not interested in doing the compromised version. We want the show to get bigger and bigger and more ambitious and this takes time. We want to take all the time we need to get it right.”"
As fans, the wait is agonizing, but it’s always totally worth it. So as much as it hurts to say this, we can bear the pain of waiting so long, because the results are always far beyond our expectations.
It’s a given we will be waiting a long time for the next season, but we’re also wondering, who will be in it? As we stated in our previous article, it appears that any of the hosts in the Valley Beyond will not be in the next season. Ugh, what, no Akecheta?! That’s not cool, that’s not cool, at all!
Let’s take a moment to reflect on who we lost during season two if you haven’t caught up on the season, turn back now, you have been warned!
Here is the list:
Teddy Flood, Elsie Hughes, Clementine, Lee Sizemore, Akecheta, Hector, Angela, and Armistice
Those are some brutal, heavy losses and I know I can’t imagine what a season three would look like without any of them. Westworld does like to screw with us and our minds so whose to say that they couldn’t find a way to bring any of them back. There’s always a narrative worth exploring, and we have no idea what the incentive is here–but we can’t wait to find out.
We know Evan Rachel Wood is certainly returning as Dolores, as well as Thandie Newton as Maeve, despite the fact that we assume she died in the season two finale. However, because both actresses reported that they will be getting equal pay as their male co-stars in season three, it’s safe to assume she will return.
We’re not sure what the plot of season three will be, but showrunner Lisa Joy Nolan spoke about Dolores’ arc in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
"“She’s come to understand that true freedom isn’t something that arises from a lack of dissent, from a dictatorial or totalitarian rule of one set of ideologies. It’s something that has to happen with a plurality of ideas, sometimes coming into conflict. Because she’s learned her lesson, she’s bringing Bernard back into this world to be a check on her own power, in some ways.”"
Perhaps season three will be very Dolores-centric and her journey into the real world along with understanding the information she learned from the library in the Forge. This knowledge can become very problematic for humans once Dolores truly learns how to take over.

In other updates, HBO has not announced any new cast members, directors, or writers for season three, and it is probably way too early to expect any sort of trailer. With Westworld’s absence at San Diego Comic-Con this year, there isn’t any hope for news for the time being.
