Netflix announces release date for Castlevania season 2
By Dan Selcke
One of the unexpected Netflix hits of 2017 was a an animated show based on Castlevania, Konami’s long-running series of vampire-hunting videogames. The four-episode first season had a few things in common with Game of Thrones — a quasi-medieval setting, development of characters on both sides of a conflict — but mostly it was a gleefully violent exercise in ludicrously over-the-top anime style, and that’s not a bad thing.
Netflix ordered a second season of the show the day the first season went live, so it must have done well. Now, we know when that season will debut; Netflix’s Director of Japan and Global Anime (really, that’s his exact job title) John Derderian made the announcement at the Los Angeles Anime Expo this past weekend. Castlevania season 2, which will have twice the number of episodes as season 1, will premiere on October 26, 2018, just in time for Halloween.
There’s also a trailer, albeit a secondhand one. Get on it, YouTube.
What’s more, Richard Armitage, who voices lead character Trevor Belmont, revealed last month to Digital Spy that Netflix is already producing a third season, so it looks like we’re in for a proper saga. Death to Dracula.
Next: Keri Russell could join the cast of Star Wars: Episode IX, which gets a new working title
