“Try to be the king but the ace is back” — Dr Dre

After a year away from the Emmys, Game of Thrones came back with a vengeance yesterday and earned 22 nominations for the cast and crew of season 7. Those included a nomination for Peter Dinklage for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Dinklage has been nominated in this category for every single season of Game of Thrones (he’s won twice, for her work on seasons 1 and 5), bringing his grand total of nods to seven. That’s more nominations for Best Supporting Actor than anyone in history! So congratulations to Peter Dinklage, record breaker.

Dinklage’s castmates took to social media to congratulate the actor, as well as the other cast and crew members up for awards. This year, the only actors with Emmy nods are the Lannister siblings: Lena Headey (Cersei) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) also stand to win little golden statues. Headey congratulated her “brothers (literally) from other mothers”:

We’re particularly excited for Coster-Waldau, since this is his first time in Emmy contention. Gwendoline Christie, who for some reason has never been nominated for her work as Brienne of Tarth, also congratulated the trio:

Other cast members who have been robbed of Emmy nominations over the years include Alfie Allen, Rory McCann and Michelle Fairley; just saying.

Anyway, all the love almost makes you forget that these people spend most of their time on screen trying to kill each other. Should Dinklage take home the win this year, he’ll be tied with Breaking Bad alum Aaron Paul, who’s won three Supporting Actor statues for his performance as Jesse Pinkman.

Game of Thrones currently holds the record for most Emmy wins for a drama series at 38, with anything it picks up at this years awards show being gravy. But can it possibly catch up to Saturday Night Live’s 64 Emmys by the time season 8 is over?
