Doctor Who: Series Eleven teaser finally revealed!

So we finally have a glimpse of Series Eleven of Doctor Who! Or do we? We take a look at today’s teaser!

So, the first teaser of Series Eleven of Doctor Who is finally out! Surprisingly, it’s a teaser that doesn’t seem to use footage from the actual episodes. Just a specially filmed glimpse of the characters, and a very, very small idea of what we can expect.

Essentially, it’s very low key. We get to see the three new companions in their daily lives. Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yasmin (Mandip Gill) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) all see strange signs from the Doctor. We then see the tagline for Series Eleven, “The universe is calling”, right before we catch a glimpse of Jodie Whittaker in full costume.

More from Winter is Coming

So it’s not much to look at, at least not right now. No old enemies teased or ideas of any key arcs. Or even any dialogue. On the surface, it doesn’t appear to be much more than what we got when Jodie Whittaker was initially revealed as the Thirteenth Doctor last year.

Then again, considering how big this new era will be, it’s easy to see why the BBC aren’t throwing everything at us straight away. This teaser may give us nothing plot-wise, but it’s still a little nice to see the new main characters in action.

One background detail that’s easy to miss is the football commentary. What I really like about this detail is that you can tell this was filmed specifically to be broadcast during the World Cup. One line that particularly stands out:

"I’m really excited to see what happens."

I think that’s true for many of us.

The next trailer?

So can we expect to see another new trailer any time soon? At the moment, it’s difficult to say. The best bet would be during the Doctor Who panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego. That’s only a few days away, on Thursday 19th July. Would they reveal another trailer so soon?

It’s very possible. Especially considering how little the teaser actually revealed. But even if they do release it, will they release it online?

Keep in mind, the BBC have been very protective of trailers in the past when it comes to Comic-Con. For example, the first trailer for The End of Time was shown at Comic-Con in July 2009 . However, the BBC never officially released the trailer outside of the event, so for months, fans could only glimpse it through second hand recordings of the trailer on YouTube.

The same was true for The Day of the Doctor. While a trailer for the incredibly anticipated anniversary story was released at Comic-Con, fans weren’t able to see any official trailers online until October, with one featuring footage from the episode only shown in early November.

So just because a trailer could be revealed at Comic-Con, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we’ll get to see one, at least for those millions of us who won’t be able to attend. Fingers crossed that all of us fans actually get to see it.
