Doctor Who: New Series Eleven trailer from Comic-Con revealed!

Sunday gave us our first glimpse, but today gives us actual footage! Check out the new trailer for Series Eleven of Doctor Who, as revealed at San Diego Comic-Con!

Today marks the first day of San Diego Comic-Con. Out of all four days of the convention, today is probably the most exciting of all for Doctor Who fans.

Not just for the ones who attended and got to see the panel. I’m very envious for all those who got to go and see Jodie Whittaker, Chris Chibnall and the brand new cast in person.

But even those many, many of us who weren’t able to attend today have been very lucky. Because a brand new trailer has just been released.

And for any of you that were disappointed by Sunday’s teaser trailer, especially by the lack of anything from Series Eleven itself, you’re especially in luck. Because unlike the last trailer, which was specifically shot for the World Cup Final, this one genuinely features footage from future episodes.

Take a look and see what’s in store.

Where are the monsters?

One thing that leaps out about the trailer is the distinct lack of aliens. I’m not going to say that Series Eleven won’t feature any. Especially as it doesn’t even feature any guest cast, either, from initial observations.

But it’s still a little surprising. Aliens and monsters have been a huge thing for Doctor Who for a very long time. I’m sure that they’ll continue to be, too. Perhaps we’re seeing so little now because the series is still early in the post-production stages.

We do have a few glimpses of different times and places, at least. Not much, admittedly. (Again, I strongly suspect that there’s still a lot of work that needs to be done for the series). But it’s nice to see new skies and new worlds.

A new team

More from Winter is Coming

But more than anything else in the trailer, one thing that was focused on was the cast. We’ve got a few more glimpses of each of the regulars, which was nice to see. The more we see of them, the clearer it becomes that they really do seem to be a team.

I’m really curious what kind of dynamic this team will bring, and I think we’ll be getting something a little more different than from previous TARDIS teams.

The short glimpses of Whittaker’s Doctor were definitely exciting. Especially her monologue. It’s weird to think, but we didn’t hear a single word from her in the last trailer. But she seems really keen to see the universe, almost childlike, at least judging from the trailer. I’m interested to see how long her cheerful demeanor will last, before we see the darkness of her Doctor.

I also need to say that I’m definitely liking her costume a lot more, now that I’m seeing it in action. I’ll admit that I wasn’t too sure when the initial pictures were first revealed. But it does seem to suit her very well, from what little we’ve seen of it so far.

A short trailer

If there’s one thing that’s disappointing about this trailer, it’s the length. Not even a minute long, it’s a bit of a shame that we weren’t able to see much.

On the other hand, I’m very, very glad that they’re not revealing everything too soon, and that the BBC aren’t making the same stupid mistakes as the John Simm reveal for Series Ten. Moffat had clearly intended that to be a massive surprise, before the BBC ruined it by including a shot of him in the trailer for Series Ten. But thankfully, nothing like that has shown up yet.

I hope the BBC continues this trend, and trusts Chibnall enough to keep any of his major surprises, well, a surprise. For now, I’m grateful that we’ve finally got a solid glimpse of what’s to come.
