New York: Tywin Lannister

Tywin Lannister has always been my low-key favorite character. He might be a villain, but there are so many interesting layers to him. Don’t let his embarrassing death fool you into thinking that he’s anything less than the most influential man in Westeros.

As Lord of Casterly Rock, Tywin is one of the most significant players in the game of thrones. He is able to sway other powerful lords to see his side of things, as when he got Walder Frey and Roose Bolton to betray the Starks at the Red Wedding, and is always on the lookout for ways to further build his legacy. He someone to be both feared and respected.

What state could match this sort of authority? The only one that seems worthy is New York. While it may not actually be the capital of the United States, it’s the center of the country’s financial activity. And like Tywin, New York’s influence extends far beyond its borders; between Wall Street and the United Nations headquarters, this state is a world player.

If Tywin Lannister was in America today, he’d definitely be suited up for some business meeting in a New York skyscraper. The battle over his family legacy and inheritance would play out like the HBO show Succession. The Empire State is a perfect match for the man with an empire state of mind.
