Montana: Khal Drogo

Khal Drogo may have exited Game of Thrones early, but he’s still one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise. As I’m sure you remember, Drogo was the leader of a massive Dothraki khalasar. He married Daenerys Targaryen when she was very young, and together they led their army all over Essos.

Montana is unofficially nicknamed Big Sky Country, and for good reason. It has massive expanses of land, which would be absolutely perfect for Khal Drogo and his bloodriders if they were living in America instead of beyond the Narrow Sea. In terms of area, this state is the fourth largest in the country, but the eighth least populated. With so many wide open spaces, it’d be perfect for hosting a great khalasar.

Unsurprisingly, Montana is known for its many outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and camping. It’s a traditional manly man’s kind of state, and an outdoorsy guy like Khal Drogo would probably love it. Big Sky Country is also popular for its great horseback riding. Given how much they prize horses, they’re no better place in the US for the Dothraki.

Perhaps best of all is how far removed Montana is from the sea. The Dothraki have no great love for water, and only head out on the sea under Daenerys’ command A landlocked state like Montana would be a safe haven for Drogo’s kind.
