Idaho: Hot Pie
If you’re a super fan of Game of Thrones, and also super hungry, you might ownA Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Game of Thrones Cookbook. It’s an awesome resource for those who want to taste Westeros as well as watch it on the TV, but the one thing I never understood about it was why there weren’t more references to the most important cook in the Seven Kingdoms: Hot Pie.
Hot Pie has his nickname for a reason. The kid is all about food, and he has the culinary abilities to back him up. We first get to see him in action when he gifts Arya with a baked wolf, and from there his skills only improve. He’s hired on as a baker’s apprentice at the Inn at the Crossroads. He can tell you all about a kidney pie and knows exactly when you need a refresh on ale.
So it’s fitting to pair Hot Pie with a state well known for one of its edible exports: the Idaho potato. In fact, I’d argue this is what Idaho is best known for. While the state certainly has other merits, a quick google search of the starchy crop will yield a wealth of fan sites, links to the Idaho Potato Commission and an abundance of recipes.
I’m certain that Hot Pie would fall in love with the versatility of the Idaho potato. He’d make his home in Idaho cooking up tasty potato dishes to compliment his kidney pie.
