Maryland: Yara Greyjoy

Yara Greyjoy may or may not have met an early demise last season, but I’m still rooting for her to make it out of this series okay. She’s a next level badass on the sea, which makes her the perfect pick for the Old Line State.

Maryland is home to the United States Naval Academy, where young men and woman train to become officers in the Navy or Marine Corps. Yara comes from a long line of seafarers, and was trained from childhood to lead men into battle on the open water. I’m sure that if Yara were born in America instead of on the Iron Islands, she’d sign right up for it.

But even if Yara didn’t attend the Naval Academy, she’d still enjoy Maryland for its coastline. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that Maryland isn’t too far away from the capitol in Washington D.C., which is nice for someone as ambitious as Yara.

I also love Maryland’s rich history. The state can trace its roots back to the original 13 colonies, which falls right in line with how the Greyjoys come from a long line of Ironborn rulers. There are many reasons for Yara to settle in at the Old Line State; she’d fit right in!
