New Jersey: Loras Tyrell
Loras Tyrell is hard to forget; he literally went out with a bang.
Too soon?
Aside from his explosive ending, Loras did have a memorable personality. As the gay son of a powerful lord, Loras could have spent his life hiding who he really was. Instead, he owned his reputation and enjoyed himself, even inviting his lover into the Red Keep. Unfortunately, the religious zealots running wild through King’s Landing at the time used his sexuality as an excuse to imprison him, but at least he tried to be who he was in a world that wanted him to be someone else.
Like Loras, New Jersey has a big personality. Many people in the state probably wish it weren’t so, but when you think of New Jersey, it’s hard not to picture brash characters from Jersey Shore or the worldly pleasures of Atlantic City.
Also noteworthy is that New Jersey is nicknamed the Garden State and Loras hails from Highgarden. In a call back to his beautiful home region, he once gave a rose to Sansa Stark as a favor after fighting the Mountain in a tournament.
According to U.S. News, New Jersey is one of the wealthiest states in America. To be specific, it’s the third most wealthy, which fits with how the Tyrells are among the richest families in Westeros, just a hair beneath the Lannisters. The Reach is a fertile area, and the Tyrells never want for cash.
