South Carolina: Robb Stark
For a lot of these states in the deep South, I‘ve played off of the idea that they are home to historic families or figures with big personalities. For South Carolina, I went in a similar direction, but with a rebel twist.
Robb Stark is my choice for the Palmetto State. Obviously, Robb has an illustrious family history. The Starks can trace their lineage back to the Age of Heroes, when Bran the Builder raised both Winterfell and the Wall. This focus on legacy calls to mind the American South, where family name was and still is a pretty big deal.
In more recent times, the Starks have become famous for their rebellious streak. While all the Stark children are rebels, it was eldest son Robb Stark who actually led an army against the throne. Robb was named “King in the North” when he refused Joffrey Baratheon’s request to pay him fealty, and instead called his bannermen to help him take down the unjust Lannister regime.
South Carolinians may find this story a touch familiar. South Carolina was famously the very first state to secede from the Union before the Civil War. While both Robb Stark and South Carolina ultimately failed to keep their dissension going, they leave lasting legacies of boldness and rebellion.
