Arkansas: Littlefinger

Lord Petyr Baelish comes from practically nothing. He gets his nickname, “Littlefinger,” from his birthplace: the Fingers in the Vale of Arryn.

But Baelish was always ambitious, and rose from his lowly status to become Master of Coin and beyond. Essentially a self-made man, he got to choose for himself how he wanted to present the name “Baelish” to the rest of the world. For example, he replaced his family’s sigil with his own design: a mockingbird.

Arkansas, too, values the mockingbird; it is the state bird. In Arkansas, the bird was chosen because of its beautiful song. Littlefinger likely chose it for its perceived innocence and unassuming nature, but the song comes with it. The mockingbird’s voice is part of its naive persona, and Littlefinger uses his own voice to beguile leaders and convince them to trust him.

The connections run deeper than that. Arkansas’ state nickname is “Land of Opportunity.” Could there be any more fitting motto to describe Littlefinger’s outlook on life? He evaluates each personal decision based on it can help him. He is the very definition of a man who actively looks for and seizes opportunity.
