Massachusetts: Jon Snow

Massachusetts is a historically patriotic state and deserves to be matched with a patriotic pick! Jon Snow is the perfect character to represent the Bay State.

Jon cares deeply about the fate of Westeros; the fact that he took the Black so he could defend it is proof enough of that. He proves so time and again as he makes unpopular decisions to keep the realm safe, as when he allies with the wildlings or the foreign leader Daenerys Targaryen. His first priority is always the safety of his people (and, later, of the whole world), and eventually he is literally killed for it. With the exception of maybe Ned Stark, I’d say he’s the most valiant martyr for patriotism in the story.

Massachusetts embodies similar values. It’s where the Boston Tea Party happened. It was home to revolutionary leaders like Paul Revere and John Adams, as well as the majority of the soldiers in the Continental Army. This historic attitude of rebellion toward the British fits in well with a classically rebellious Jon Snow, who must constantly prove his worth as the bastard son of a lord.

Bostonians and Jon Snow both believe that you need to earn what you get. Raised alongside his noble-born siblings, Jon Snow could have grown up spoiled, but instead chose to cast off entitlement and work his way up the ladder. How do ya like them apples?
