Delaware: The Children

At this point in time, not a lot is known about the mysterious Children of the Forest. In the show, they made their first appearance in season 4, when Leaf saves Bran and his friends from a group of wights. When Bran returned in season 6, so did they.

Most of what we know about the Children comes from flashbacks and ancient tales. Educated folk like Maester Luwin seem to think they’ve gone extinct (he once claims that they did exist, but that they had long since gone the way of dragons and giants. . . joke’s on him, I guess). When we finally do meet Leaf, we still don’t get a ton of info. Mostly we just learn that the Children existed before the First Men. Later, in one of Bran’s visions, we see that they were responsible for creating the White Walkers, but as big of a bombshell as that is, it’s not exactly an in-depth personal history.

I liken the Children to Delaware because they are both known for their long histories. Like how the Children came before the First Men, Delaware is nicknamed the First State because it was, in fact, the first of the 13 original states to ratify the Constitution. During the Revolutionary War, the Battle of Cooch’s Bridge in Delaware marked the first time Betsy Ross’ American flag was flown. As the past of Deleware is vitally tied to the United States of America, so is the are the Children and their history vitally tied to Westeros.
