As we all know, Westworld is a top TV contender racking up a total of 21 Emmy nominations for the 70th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. As expected, Jeffrey Wright is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Bernard Lowe on Westworld.

According to the Gold Derby, Jeffrey Wright has entered the Westworld episode, “The Passenger” as his Emmy submission for Lead Actor in a Drama Series nomination. “The Passenger” is the 90-minute season finale and 10th episode of the Westworld season two.

This episode brings the characters full circle at the Valley Beyond. Dolores, Bernard, and the Man in Black make it there, but only Dolores and Bernard are privy to a tour of the inner workings of the Forge by a simulated Logan.

Bernard is later forced to shoot Dolores to stop her from obliterating the digital Valley Beyond–a door that leads to a digital landscape free from human control. Bernard grants Dolores another chance by placing her circuit unit in a host version of Charlotte. In the end, Haleores makes it out of Westworld with Bernard’s circuit unit in her handbag among other unknown circuit units.

As you can see, Jeffrey Wright’s character Bernard did a lot of legwork in “The Passenger”, making it the perfect episode for his lead actor Emmy nomination. Jeffrey Wright’s performance is outstanding as he presents Bernard’s struggles to make decisions after Ford’s deletion. Who can he trust when Dolores is a psychopath and the humans are more than willing to betray him? (here’s looking at you, Elsie.)

And if you are still not convinced that this episode is the best example of Jeffrey Wright’s work, remember that it also explains why Bernard is so confused at the beginning of the season. We get more of his convincing portrayal of a host as he experiences memory malfunctions after deliberately jarring his system to ensure that the humans never know about Haleores.

The chances of a Westworld actor winning the award is twice as strong since Ed Harris is nominated for the same award. And Jeffrey Wright’s submission of “The Passenger” gives him a strong lead on snagging the award.
