Does a new photo from the set of #StarWars: Episode IX reveal the film’s first spoiler? (UPDATE: NOPE)

Filming on Star Wars: Episode IX, the final film in Disney’s sequel trilogy, is in full swing under the watchful eye of director J.J. Abrams. We know the movie will feature some new faces as well as the return of much-beloved old ones.

Recently, Abrams shared a photo from behind the scenes of the first day of filming, featuring John Boyega (Finn), Daisy Ridley (Rey) and Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca) in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. Not to be outdone, director of photography Dan Mindel shared a set photo that may give us a clue about a location our heroes — or villains — will visit in the film.

UPDATE: Nope. The eagle-eyed fans at Star Wars News Net have discovered that the photo shared from Dan Mindel’s Instagram account is actually from John Carter, another film he worked on. Apologies.

Warning: potential SPOILERS await.

We think this photo was taken at Pinewood Studios in London, the place Lucasfilm has called home since Episode VII began filming in 2014. Mindel has worked on several films with Abrams, like Star Trek, Mission Impossible and The Force Awakens.

So what does the photo tell us? Notice the blue circle in the middle of the floor. If you watched The Last Jedi, it may look familiar to you.

That’s Luke on the planet of Ahch-To, where he stayed for years in self-imposed exile. Specifically, he stayed on Temple Island, the location of the first-ever Jedi temple (or at least a very old one). We saw that symbol when Luke gave Rey her first lesson, and again when Luke attuned himself with the Force so he could help rescue the Resistance at the end of the film.

Does Mindel’s photo hint that we’ll return to Temple Island in Episode IX? Nothing’s concrete — there could be similar symbols at other temples elsewhere in the galaxy, if that is indeed what we’re looking at — but with more than a year to go until the film debuts, there’s plenty of time to speculate.
