Torchwood: Why they should meet the Forge
By James Aggas
Torchwood and the Forge. Two very similar but also very different organizations. Is it time that we found out what happens when these two meet?
In one of my recent articles, I covered the Forge, what they were, and why they should return. I also compared them to Torchwood, as the two have many similarities, but also some key differences.
Now, I’m going to take things one step further. I think that the next time the Forge should appear in a Big Finish audio should be in a Torchwood story.
Why? Well for one thing, there’s something rather funny about the idea of there being two top secret organizations, one by the Queen and one by the British government, both looking to use and exploit alien technology. Surely the two must have come into conflict with each other. Which one would get to possess the technology?
A choice of two Torchwood eras
We also have two clear eras of Torchwood that the Forge could encounter. We have the team we know, lead by Captain Jack Harkness. Certainly, this could be an interesting clash of morals, especially if Jack faced Nimrod himself.
More from Winter is Coming
- For All Mankind finally gives us information in Episode 405, “Goldilocks”
- Watch a stunning VFX breakdown of The Wheel of Time season 2
- Of course Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) thinks Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen) should rule Westeros
- Confirmed: The Last of Us season 2 will air in 2025
- Final season of Star Trek: Discovery will have “a lot of action, a lot of adventure, a lot of fun”
Considering how Nimrod is completely lacking in any morals, I suspect he and Jack would not get along. In fact, I strongly suspect it would very much be a clearcut “Torchwood vs Forge” story. Which would definitely be interesting to hear.
But there is one other era that they could show up in. With Torchwood One‘s distinct prequel setting, it could be at least equally interesting for the Forge to encounter a version of Torchwood that took more risks and had fewer moral scruples.
It would be especially fantastic to hear Yvonne Hartman against Nimrod. Two brilliant voices of equally brilliant personalities trying to outwit each other? What more could you want?
But why now? Well, Big Finish will be celebrating its twentieth anniversary in 2019. (Particularly with one of the biggest ever crossovers, The Legacy of Time.) With stories of the Forge having been told across Big Finish’s vast history, now would be an appropriate time to bring the Forge back and face an equally interesting counterpart.
What do you think? Should Torchwood and the Forge meet? If so, in what era, and with what leader? Let us know in the comments below.
