Over the past year, Brewery Ommegang and HBO have joined forces to release a series of Game of Thrones-themed beers, each modeled after a different character. There’s been the Hand of the Queen Barleywine Ale in honor of Tyrion Lannister, the Queen of the Seven Kingdons Belgian Ale for his sister Cersei, and the Mother of Dragons Ale Blend, a drink fit for Daenerys Targaryen.
They’re all part of the Royal Reserve Collection, a quartet of drinks celebrating our favorite show. And now, the final beer has been revealed. I give you the King in the North Imperial Stout, Jon Snow’s drink of choice:
Per Entertainment Weekly, this beer is “brewed to sustain a leader through a long, dark night.” It’s “jet black with a thick tan head… aromas of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate blend with those of oak, bourbon, and vanilla.” And what of flavor? Ah, the flavor; it’s “rich and full with notes of roasted malt up front followed by smooth bourbon and a hint of oak,” with a finish that’s “thick and chewy with oatmeal creaminess, and pleasant lingering roast.”
Jeff Peters, HBO’s vice president of licensing and retail, thinks this is the perfect way to round the Royal Reserve Collection. “We expect this one to bring our fans to their feet to toast the King in the North!” he said. But if you want to sit down and drink it quietly, that’s okay, too. The King in the North Imperial Stout will be on store shelves November 23, just in time for winter.
And if you’re wondering where that image of Jon Snow drinking comes from, it’s this hilarious skit on Late Night with Seth Meyers:
Happy Friday.
