Like every Thrones character still breathing, Jorah Mormont has had a rough ride. He’s broken the law, been condemned to death by Eddard Stark and exiled from his home on Bear Island, and that’s all before he falls in love with a girl who could never feel the same way about him and then he catches greyscale. His redemption has been his absolute loyalty to Daenerys Targaryen, switching from Lannister spy to her most ardent supporter.

Although somewhat past his prime, Jorah the Andal is a professionally trained knight whose skills have been further honed by years as a mercenary, including a stint with the Golden Company, a famous outfit we’ll finally see onscreen in season 8. He’s exhibited some questionable judgment along the way, but he’s come out the other end end ready or anything. Anyone who can defeat a Dothraki warrior in single combat, make it all the way to the gladiatorial finals in the fighting pits of Meereen and face down wights beyond the Wall still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
