Technically, the talented Oberyn Martell defeated (and mortally wounded) the Mountain in single combat, but his own careless arrogance allowed the dying behemoth to pull him into a skull-squishing death grip. He lost, but we think his performance is enough to land him one slot higher than his hulking opponent.

Oberyn, known as the Red Viper of Dorne and father of the eight bastard Sand Snakes, is as famous for his sexual appetite as he is for his skill with a spear. He apparently trained for a number of years in the fighting pits of Meereen. He also spent some of his youth at the Citadel studying to become a maester, and emerged with knowledge of poisons. He applied manticore venom to his spearblade when fighting The Mountain, which accounts for the awful corruption of the larger man’s wounds.
