It’s always tough to choose who tops a list like this, but the Famous Sword of the Morning, wielding the sword Dawn, has to take first place once again. He appeared on Thrones in the Tower of Joy flashback, so he’s eligible, and as seen there, his swordsmanship is unparalleled.
As Prince Rhaegar Targaryen’s dearest friend and a member of the mad King Aerys II Targaryen’s Kingsguard, Dayne fought outnumbered against Eddard Stark and his company at the Tower of Joy. There Dayne was killed, stabbed in the back by Howland Reed.
Dayne’s legacy is cemented by two of the show’s best character witnesses: Eddard Stark, a man of honor and honest conviction, tells his son Bran that Dayne was the finest knight he ever saw. Later, Jaime Lannister tells Loras Tyrell that Dayne “could have slain all five of you [Kingsguard] with his left hand while he was taking a piss with the right.”
