Did the Game of Thrones special effects team just let a season 8 spoiler slip?

The special effects team for Game of Thrones season 7 is coming off a win at the 2018 Creative Arts Emmys for their work in episode 706, “Beyond the Wall.” During their post-ceremony interview, Steve Kullback, one of the producers for the team quipped about a certain character’s life expectancy in season 8. Check it out, and beware the potential SPOILER.

“And we can’t tell you in what episode Tyrion dies…or doesn’t.” Oh boy, who let Steve Kullback near the mic? You can actually see the moment terror crosses the face of each member of the SFX team when it dawns on them what Kullback just said. My favorite reaction is Sam Conway (the chap in the kilt) slamming the palm of his hand into his forehead then quickly reaching for the mic, as the team’s supervisor Joe Baur steps in to change the subject. Too late fellas, the internet has you now.

Perhaps we should just chalk this little foible up to the high of winning Emmy gold, and leave it at that. Sure, Steve Kullback could have simply been making a joke, but there’s also the possibility that he could have legitimately let a season 8 spoiler slip.

The topic of Tyrion’s life or death in season 8 has been gaining steam of late. Recently, Peter Dinklage (who plays Tyrion) talked about that moment in the season 7 finale, when he watched Jon go into Dany’s room on their boat ride to happy land White Harbor. “No, ah, it’s complicated… A lot of the time with Tyrion, it’s professional and personal. Obviously, he has feelings for Daenerys. He loves her — or thinks he does,” Dinklage told Entertainment Weekly. “She’s awe-inspiring. He’s questioning that because he doesn’t have a good track record for falling in love. There’s jealousy wrapped up in there.”

So Tyrion is going into season 8 with feelings of jealousy toward Jon Snow? Could be interesting.

And now for some more intense SPOILER talk (like really, this is a big one; turn back now if you don’t want to learn too much):

The special effects team members are’t the only people whispering about Tyrion’s death. Friki Doctor, who’s long leaked information about the show, is reporting that Tyrion Lannister will die in season 8 after being tried and convicted of treason, which would be an unexpected turn indeed:

Nothing’s for sure until we see the new episodes, but this is definitely interesting. Hurry up and get here, 2019; we need answers now!
