Iceland: Jon Snow

It was tricky to pick a country for Jon Snow. We’ve seen many different sides of him, and what one country can reflect them all? As it turns out, the small country of Iceland is a near perfect match.

Did you know that Iceland is nicknamed “The Land of Fire and Ice?” As that name implies, Iceland is home to some very chilly landmarks, including massive glaciers. However, it’s also home to some of the world’s most active volcanoes. Anyway, most Game of Thrones know that the show is based on a series of books called A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R. R. Martin. While there are many reasons the series has this name, one involves Jon Snow’s heritage. While raised as Ned Stark’s bastard, he’s actually the forbidden child of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. In other words, he’s represents a union between ice and fire, just like Iceland!

And there are more comparisons. Iceland is a wild, barren country, with landscapes not unlike the ones Jon explored beyond the Wall. It’s a little mysterious, too, and one of the best spots in the world to check out the amazing Northern Lights. Between White Walkers and parental ambiguity, Jon’s life has featured its fair share of mystery.
