Belgium: Hot Pie
Belgium, while known for many things, is perhaps most famous for being the snack capital of Europe. You want something tasty and calorie-filled? This is your prime destination. Some of its best-known snacks are waffles, beer, fries, and, of course, the amazing chocolate. Belgium is actually home to over 2,000 chocolatiers.
Naturally, this delicious heritage makes Belgium a good fit for the always-endearing Hot Pie. Like Belgium, Hot Pie is best known for his skill in the kitchen. When we first meet him, he’s a King’s Landing orphan recruited into the Night’s Watch, but ultimately he ends up serving as a baker’s apprentice and takes great pride in his work. While he may be whipping up bread wolves instead of tasty chocolates, I have no doubt he’d be happy to settle in any country where food is taken seriously.
But even without the culinary link, Belgium and Hot Pie are still a good match. Did you know that Belgium survived a whopping 20 months without a government? In 2010, Belgium’s prime minister resigned and a new parliamentary majority wasn’t established. Like Belgium, Hot Pie has done pretty well for himself without someone showing him the way. He might not be the bravest member of Arya’s little group, but he can at least take care of himself. Being raised on the streets of King’s Landing probably taught him a thing or two.
