Poland: Catelyn Stark

Catelyn Stark might not have been the chillest character on Game of Thrones in her day, but she was certainly memorable. She was front and center for some of the most memorable scenes on the show, including the Red Wedding and the assassination attempt on Bran’s life. She had a strong sense of duty and was willing to act on her convictions, for better or worse.

Catelyn Stark and Poland shares some distinct personality traits. For one thing, Poland shares Lady Stark’s taste for bluntness. Catelyn rarely hesitates to make her feelings on any  given matter known, and the Polish don’t believe in suffering in silence.

Then there’s the Polish focus on hospitality. The Polish will always go out of their way to take care of a guest. I’m sure Catelyn would appreciate that, particularly after Walder Frey broke the laws of hospitality when he hosted Catelyn and her family at the Twins.

Many Polish people are also bilingual. It’s very common to learn one or two foreign languages in school there. While Catelyn isn’t bilingual, she is from a mixed cultural background. She was raised in Riverrun, spent her adulthood in Winterfell, and lived her final days traveling the country with her son. She would probably appreciate a country that placed so much emphasis on learning about intercultural communication.
