Ukraine: Robb Stark

Robb Stark was a flame that burned bright and fast. After the death of his father, Robb took resisted Lannister rule as the King of the North. He proved himself a military force to be reckoned with, a smart, patient ruler who generally knew how to make the best decisions even when they were difficult.

In light of Robb’s political prowess, it seems only fitting that he match with a country that is equally interested in revamping its military might. The Ukraine is a great fit. This country has a surprisingly large military. 25 years ago Ukraine was throwing money at its army like warfare was going out of style. While that didn’t last, Ukraine is now ranked 8th in Europe for military power and the military history of the country still generally proves pretty fascinating.

Robb’s downfall was not a military blunder but a personal weakness: it’s his love for Talisa, a foreign daughter of a noble family. Robb had initially bargained to marry a Frey daughter to secure an alliance, but forsook his promise when he met Talisa. Their marriage ultimately cost him his cause and his life.

Ukraine, too, has ties to love. It’s home to the famous Tunnel of Love, a gorgeous forested tunnel that once served as a railroad.
