Norway: Brienne of Tarth

Close your eyes and picture someone from Norway. When I do it, I see someone tall, blonde and broad. Sound familiar?

I think Brienne of Tarth more than fits the Norwegian bill. Just look at that physique! She’s known throughout the Seven Kingdoms for it. Unfortunately, feedback on her appearance isn’t always positive. Growing up, boys used to mock Brienne for her stature. Luckily, this rockin’ feminist example leaned in hard. She learned to sword fight like a pro and won’t let anyone intimidate her.

More than just sporting the look of a Norwegian, Brienne embodies the right spirit. Historically, Norway was home to the Vikings, seafaring warriors who conquered far lands. Brienne is just as fierce and brave, and can hold her own in any sword fight, even against foes like Jaime Lannister and the Hound. She fears no one. She may not do much seafaring, but she was born on an island, so she has to at least be familiar with boating. I think that Norway of old would be just the place for her to put her skills to good use.
