Game of Thrones concept artists show off the unseen World of Ice and Fire

The lands of A Song of Ice and Fire are vast and mysterious. And while we’ve seen a lot of Westeros and Essos on Game of Thrones, we’ve only glimpsed a portion of what George R.R. Martin dreamed up. For 40 artists, many of whom worked on the show, that wasn’t enough. Working for over three years and using The World of Ice and Fire as a guide, those artists have brought many of those unseen places to life, and will show them off to the world in an exhibition to be held in Berlin early in 2019: Unseen Westeros. Unseen Westeros will debut on Wednesday, January 23 at the Umspannwerk in Reinickendorf, Berlin, a 200-year-old complex of buildings with plenty of space to stage these artworks. The exhibit will stay open through Sunday, January 27, and will be completely free to the public.

Working with George R.R. Martin’s blessing, the artists created over 80 scenes from every corner of the author’s world. Fans will move from one location to the next, each with an original soundtrack composed for the exhibit. Audio guides will be on hand to give visitors a deeper understanding of the world. Here’s a few of the as-yet unseen places they’ll depict:

It’s also one of the better maps of Martin’s world that we’ve seen, incidentally, and so much of it unexplored, whether in the books or on the show.

Since the exhibit itself is free, the artists have established a Kickstarter to cover the costs. Check out the rewards on offer, plus several stills of the artwork on the front page. The Kickstarter promo video gives you a better sense of how this all came together:
