Top 10 wildest Game of Thrones fan theories ahead of season 8

Drogon is Azor Ahai…and also Dany’s unborn son Rhaego
Depending on who you ask, “Azor Ahai” is another name for the Prince That Was Promised, the messiah destined to save the world. By now, pretty much every character in the story has been put forward as a candidate. We already covered Sam’s candidacy, but it goes well beyond that. Some even think Hot Pie is the legendary hero.
But who says Azor Ahai needs be a person? According to one theory, the legendary hero is none other than Daenerys’ dragon Drogo, who also happens to be the reincarnation of Rhaego, her unborn son by Khal Drogo. We’re through the looking glass, people.
Let’s start with the Azor Ahai bit. According to a prophesy, you can tell who Azor Ahai is because of certain signs. Here’s how Melisandre puts in in A Clash of Kings:
"There will come a day after a long summer when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him."
Another popular wrinkle is the idea that Azor Ahai will be born “amidst salt and smoke.” Drogon meets a lot of this criteria. He was born under the light of the red comet (“when the stars bleed”) amidst the smoke of Drogo’s funeral pyre and the salt tears of his mother Daenerys Targaryen, with his fiery breath as Lightbringer.
The other part of this theory is that Rhaego, who died in Dany’s womb shortly before her dragons were born, was somehow reincarnated as Drogon, or possibly as all three of her dragons. Perhaps warging was involved; it’s not terribly clear. Anyway, this all ties in to a DIFFERENT prophecy, this one made by the crones of dosh khaleen about Dany’s son:
"As swift as the wind he rides, and behind him his khalasar covers the earth, men without number, with arakhs shining in their hands like blades of razor grass. Fierce as a storm this prince will be. His enemies will tremble before him, and their wives will weep tears of blood and rend their flesh in grief. The bells in his hair will sing his coming, and the milk men in the stone tents will fear his name. The prince is riding, and he shall be the stallion who mounts the world."
Followed by a big khalasar, “fierce as a storm,” terrifies his enemies…sounds like Drogon to us. And Dany DOES call her dragons her children a lot, and is particularly close with Drogon.
Like a lot of the theories on this list, this one is a lot of fun to think about, but it also seems like people are tying themselves in knots trying to make sense of prophecies that are on some level nonsensical. We’re sure season 8 will have plenty of shocking moments without bringing reincarnated dragon children into the mix.
