Ghost will have a “fair amount of screen time” in Game of Thrones season 8!

If there was one character fans wanted to see more of…of any of, for that matter…in Game of Thrones season 7, it was Ghost, Jon Snow’s direwolf. He was written into at least one scene in “Stormborn,” according to writer Bryan Cogman, but it was cut:

There was a bit here where Jon came out of the crypt, and Ghost came up to him and he petted him and said, “Take care of [Sansa], watch over her for me.” But I guess those direwolves are expensive. I guess it got cut. Oh, well. Ghost is there somewhere roaming around.

The most we got of Ghost in season 7 was a brief mention from Sansa about the Northern lords not sitting around waiting for Jon to come back to Winterfell like Ghost. Well, good news, you guys: Game of Thrones special effects supervisor Joe Bauer revealed to Huffington Post that Ghost is coming back! “Oh, you’ll see him again,” Bauer said. “He has a fair amount of screen time in Season 8. He does show up.”

Bauer also explained why there’s been a noticeable lack of direwolves in recent seasons:

The direwolves are tough because you don’t want to get them wrong, so we end up always shooting real wolves and doing a scaling trick with them, but the real wolves only behave in certain ways. I think that has something to do with why the direwolves are in the show but they’re not maybe as integral as they are in the books.

Bauer didn’t detail exactly what Ghost would do in season 8 — he’s been on the show for a long while, so he knows better than to spill beans like that. He did drop some hints, though. “Ghost does show up, and he does some … he’s very present and does some pretty cool things in Season 8.”

Is GhostBowl a thing? Can it be one?
